Niumai Senijiale Buadrau’s graduation yesterday was more than a personal achievement. It was proof that faith and determination can overcome even the toughest challenges.
The 23-year-old mother from Namuamua, Serea, Naitasiri, completed her three-year degree to qualify as a Public Health graduate despite giving birth last year and juggling the demands of study and motherhood.
“I have a daughter who is now one year and four months,” Ms Buadrau said.

“After giving birth, I thought it would be the end. I am lucky that God was and will always be with me.”
Ms Buadrau said the journey was difficult, especially balancing financial pressures, sleepless nights, and academic expectations.
“It isn’t an easy field. I faced many challenges; financially, mentally, and physically,” she said. “Sometimes it’s not easy, but you just have to keep going.”
She credited her success to her parents and extended family.
“I want to give all the glory and honour to God, because without Him I wouldn’t have completed this. I am now a qualified nurse and I am over the moon,” she said.
“My parents, my immediate family, my relatives, and especially my close friends were always there for me.”
She encouraged young people, especially young mothers, not to give up on their education.
“My advice is to put God first in everything you do,” she said. “No matter what problem you face, big or small, trust that He’s in control.”
She hopes her story will inspire others who feel their dreams must be shelved when motherhood begins.
