Pandemic Forces Family To Move To Makeshift Tent

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a family to live in a makeshift tent after their sole breadwinner lost his job as a carpenter.
Ashna Prasad, 31, says they were renting at a house in Votualevu, Nadi but after her husband lost his job, they could no longer afford rent.
She said the pandemic has forced her and her husband to take their five-year-old son and six-year-old daughter to live at Voivoli Legalega in their tent house.

Ms Prasad said her brother who owns land the kindly gave them an area to build their house.
“We moved to that empty field and pitched our tent. We don’t mind if we live in this tent.”
She said despite the situation they were facing, they worked hard to earn some income by providing grass cutting services and raking.
