The late Ratu Meli Vakarewakobau was known to many as a man with a gentle spirit, full of kindness and one who loved his family very dearly.
Ratu Meli had passed away last Saturday after a short illness and laid to rest at Moceisau, Bau, yesterday.
His daughter, Alfreda Senirewa said: “My Ratu lived a fulfilling life.

“He loved my mother dearly, as always referred to her as ‘noqu dolly’ (my doll).”
His homecoming service was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel at Delainavunitoa.
Ratu Meli served as Assistant Police Commissioner in 1979.
He served also as the Lord Mayor of Suva and was also the former Chief Executive of the then Road Transport Authority, now the Land Transport Authority.
In attendance yesterday was the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, his brother Ratu Tu’uakitau Cokanauto, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua and former prime minister Laisenia Qarase.
He is survived by his wife and four children. He was 84 years old.
