Retiree Finds Passion In Flower Pot Creation

As a father-in-law, Pirthiraj is a man who considers himself blessed to have his daughter-in-law assist him in setting up an income-generating project.
The 60-year-old retired security officer of Tuatua always wanted to do something unique during his free time apart from babysitting his two grandchildren.
It wasn’t until his daughter-in-law, Archana Raj, a working mother, shared her handcrafted cement flower pots ideas and interest.

Despite the tough work to get this exterior deco done, Mr Pirthiraj agreed to help in this project because it was promoting the move to ‘be eco-friendly and go green’.
“It takes about one week from mixing the cement, designing, drying in the sun and painting,” Mr Pirthiraj said.
“The price of each pot depends on the size and design.”
Through this product, they are supporting the initiative to use products made from recycled materials for a greener Fiji.
He said some of the challenges they faced were the rainy weather condition and time.
“Sunlight is an important factor in the making process,” he said.
“The pots need to be dried well then only painting can be done on it. My daughter-in-law is smart in designing and does according to customer’s satisfaction.
“We use recycled materials like fabrics and bottles. The product is durable, functional, aesthetic, environmentally friendly. for all occasions and can be placed anywhere in or outside the house.
“We have managed to work together day and night to supply to our customers.”
“I would like to thank my daughter-in-law for sharing her ideas and being supportive during my retirement.
“Such kind of business helps me to be physically fit and stress-free. Moreover, everyone in the house keeps involved in this project which promotes more family bonding.”
