Senirusi’s Faith In Second Chances Prove Successful
Senirusi made history when he became the first young man in the school’s history to score 100 per cent in Mathematics in the Fiji Year 13 Examination.

When given a second chance to prove yourself, go at it like your life depends on it.
Senirusi Malani, 19, lived by this proverb when he decided to repeat Year 13 at Navatu Secondary School in Cakaudrove last year.
Senirusi made history when he became the first young man in the school’s history to score 100 per cent in Mathematics in the Fiji Year 13 Examination.

The young man originally from Doi Village in Ono-i-Lau said he was confident that he did well in his Mathematics paper, but never thought he would score 100 per cent.
“I was in Qarani Village in Gau with my uncle when the results were released and I was over the moon when I was relayed the news of my marks by my teacher,” he said.
“It has really been a year of massive dedication for me and I have put my heart and soul into my studies.
“I grew up in my mother’s village in Kanacea, Vuna in Taveuni and I attended South Taveuni Secondary in 2019 as a Year 13 student in which I scored 247 out of 400.
“In 2019, I scored 53 out of 100 in Maths, but I just wasn’t happy with my marks at all, especially when I planned on becoming a Maths and Physics teacher.
“So I chose to try again and enrolled at Navatu Secondary School in Savusavu last year where my cousin was teaching.”
He scored 313 out of 400 in his examination last year. He scored 57 in English, 100 in Mathematics, 77 in Physics and 79 in Technical Drawing.
Senirusi hopes to enrol at the Fiji National University to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Physics.
Navatu Secondary School principal who is also Senirusi’s Maths teacher, Ilikena Tomasi said he was proud of the achievements which proved nothing was impossible if the heart was willing.
