Malania Lewalau of Waibogi Wainadiro Primary School who travels daily by boat says her role as the head girl will be challenging.

The school, located in the remote highlands of Serua, upper Navua River, caters for two villages.

Ms Lewalau and the students from Wainadiro Village travel to school by boat.

During the prefects’ induction last Friday, the head girl said she would ensure the safety of students.

She wishes to take on a career in the medical field.

The head boy, Tadeo Gabirieli, shared the same sentiments.

“My role is not only in school, but also after school hours,” he said.

He said the students lived near farming areas and he wanted his students to be safe.

“I have to keep my eyes and ears open when my smaller brothers and sisters are out horse-riding, collecting farm produce or even out swimming,” he said.

Tadeo said he was glad to be given this opportunity to lead.

“I aim to work hard and one day become a successful businessman or a veterinary officer and come back and serve my people.”

Headteacher Robin Dayal said he was thankful to Father Gabby from Lomary Parish, who came to bless the students, not forgetting the support of the parents.
