Nischal Deo turned his childhood dream of becoming an electrician into reality at just 19 years old, becoming the first to graduate in his family.
The Korociriciri, Nausori resident completed his National Certificate Level Three in Automotive Electrical and Electronics at Pacific Polytech in just three months after learning about the course on Facebook.
Mr Deo had already secured employment at Carpenters Shipping as an auto electrician before graduating Thursday at Vunimono Hall.

“I started working and it’s been four months,” he said, adding that his new qualification would likely lead to a promotion.
“Because it was my dream to be an electrician one day,” Mr Deo explained his career choice.
The determined teenager balanced practical training at Aksha Auto Electrical with his Form Six studies at Vunimono High School, preparing himself for his chosen field.
His strategic approach paid off when he discovered Pacific Polytech’s short course programme online last year.
“I heard about Pacific Polytech on Facebook that they are taking students who want to do short course so I planned and decided to go and study,” he said.
Mr Deo’s parents attended the graduation ceremony, proud towitness their only child achieve this milestone.
“I am first to graduate in my family and I’m the only child,” he said.
Despite his success, Mr Deo plans to continue his education, considering further studies at Fiji National University or University of the South Pacific.
His advice to other young people: Focus on commitment and career planning.
“Focus on your career. If you are willing to join a course and want to get graduated, you can just join Pacific Polytech and focus on your career and you’ll be successful in your life,” he said.
