Top Home Economics student dedicates success to late grandparents
Siliai Tanuku, 18, dedicates her Year 13 success to her late grandparents as she pursues a future in nursing and nutrition.

Through tears of joy and grief, Sacred Heart College’s Home Economics top achiever Siliai Tanuku dedicated her success to her late grandparents yesterday.
The 18-year-old from Lomanikoro, Bau, Tailevu, broke down emotionally when asked who she would dedicate her achievement to.
“I just want to dedicate it to my late grandparents,” Tanuku said.

“My late grandparents, and my parents, and also my auntie.”
She scored 90 out of 100 in Home Economics, earning the highest mark in the subject for Year 13.
The eldest of five siblings also scooped the progressive award for her class level.
Tanuku said Home Economics has been her favourite subject since Year 9.
“From Year 9, I was taking Home Economics and I’ve been scoring the highest,” she said.
“Then I chose Home Economics again because of that.”
Despite facing challenges including peer pressure during her high school journey, Tanuku remained focused on her goals.
She has applied to the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences for Dietetics and Nutrition.
“My plan is to join FSN becoming a nurse. I applied for Dietetics and Nutrition,” Tanuku said.
She expressed confidence about her Year 13 external examination results.
Tanuku encouraged fellow students to persevere.
“The only message I can give to students is never give up and keep on moving forward,” she said.
