With her interest in science engineering, Janey Du wants to pursue her career in biomedical or chemical engineering after high school.

The Yat Sen Secondary School head girl is a pure science student who believes the job market in the commerce field is full and more opportunities are in the engineering field.

“I never wanted to be in commerce field and I don’t really like history because it’s more like cramming and knowing the story, events and the people, so I think science is a good option for me,” the Year 13 student said.

Janey has plans to apply for an Australian scholarship to study abroad.

“Fiji is still a developing country and it is small with its population when compared with developed countries,” Janey said.

Australia with its better facilities and opportunities for engineering studies is the best option for her after secondary school.

“After completing my studies from Australia, I want to come back to Fiji and work under a factory or the Government and to help Fiji,” she said.

“I don’t only want to study and graduate, but I want to enhance new ideas when I start working.”

She was born in Fiji, but her parents have links to China.

“I’m excited to work closely with teachers and students and provide a channel of communication between them.”

She was the school dux and scored the highest mark of the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (FY12CE) last year.

She scored 388 out of a possible 400.
