Youths and villagers from Nayarabale, Nayagalevu and Seavaci teamed up to build a tree trunk bridge to be used as a temporary crossing. This was after part of the old bridge was washed away by flood waters caused by torrential rain during Cyclone Ana.

Nayarabale youth group member Gone Mosi said this was a joint idea with efforts from Nayarabale, Nayagalevu and Seavaci villagers.

A funeral in Nayarabale last week attracted mourners from Korotasere and villagers from the coastal part of Vaturova. However flooding prevented the mourners from leaving afterward. The newly built temporary tree trunk bridge solved the problem.

“They left Nayarabale village and on their way to Korotasere they had to cross this (old) bridge, they couldn’t cross because part of it was washed away in the floods,” Mr Mosi said.

“Thirty youths and villagers gathered to do something unique which can be done by Cakaudrove people,” he said.

“Now this bridge will be used for emergency purposes like someone who has injury, helping the elderly or children that need to be taken to hospital or the Government authorities to visit the village,” Mr Mosi said.
