Fiji launches first local flight booking platform

Fijians now have a faster, easier, and smarter way to book flights with the launch of Bula Flights, Fiji’s first homegrown flight booking platform.

The official launch was held last Friday at Ashiyana Restaurant, Suva, with Government officials, travel partners and the public in attendance.

The platform was officially launched by Permanent Secretary for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications, Shaheen Ali, who called it a proud achievement for Fiji. “Bula Flights is Made in Fiji, by Fijians, for Fijians,” Mr Ali said.

“It connects our islands, strengthens communities and gives people the confidence to travel easily.”

Bula Flights let users search and compare flights from multiple airlines in one place. Travellers can book seats and pay later using MPaisa, MyCash, bank transfer, or cash. Prices are fully transparent, so what you see is exactly what you pay.

“Bula Flights is innovation with a heart,” Mr Ali said. “It is built on trust and designed for everyday Fijians.”

The platform is expected to make a real difference for ordinary Fijians. For example, a parent travelling from Labasa to Suva can now book flights quickly, pay in instalments, and plan family trips without stress. Students and workers travelling for study or work can also plan ahead without worrying about immediate payments.

Mr Ali noted Bula Flights’ broader benefits for Fiji’s economy; it will support local tourism businesses, create new jobs, and strengthen online payment systems, helping Fiji grow as a digital economy, a key goal of the National Digital Strategy 2025–2030.

He praised Vinod Mistry and the Lodhias Travel team for their vision and dedication.

“This shows that innovation can start anywhere if people are brave and determined,” he said.

Bula Flights is more than a booking tool. It is a milestone for local innovation, proving that Fijian businesses can compete with international standards while keeping Fijian values of honesty, care, and hospitality. With Bula Flights now live, Fijians can plan, book, and travel with confidence and ease. It marks a proud moment for Fiji’s digital and travel future, making journeys across Fiji and the world simpler for everyone.
