$15 Million Damodar Cinemas Labasa Opens, Sells Out Tickets On Day 1

Damodar City Cinemas opened its $15 million Labasa complex on Friday, where it employes 50 locals.
The state-of-the-art cinema complex already sold out tickets for its line-up for movies on shows on its opening day.
Damodar Group chief executive officer, Divyesh Damodar, described the opening as the best Christmas adventure for children and adults in Labasa and Vanua Levu.

There would be more employment opportunities available under the cinema development which is set to cater for more indirect vacancies to add up to the 50 already employed as direct employees.
Mr Damodar said this was to cater for the demand of event management.
He said company’s team conducted a survey and ascertained that the demand must be complemented with development.
“Labasa needed a cinema of this quality,” Mr Damodar said.
Economically, Vanua Levu, is stable enough to ensure such investments are sustainable, he said.
“We saw many Viti Levu companies opening shops in Labasa, and the strong presence, meant, Damodar City were to follow suit.”
Mr Damodar said the entire Damodar City project is committed to the Look North Policy.
“The idea is to expand the city and to create more services and job opportunities, a lot of retails in Labasa have uped their game with investment,” he said.
“It’s an economical explosion and I am glad that Damodar City is the catalyst of that.”
The complex has three cinemas (deluxe, VX and premium) with a seating for 400 patrons.
