Once posted as a teacher to Waiqele, Labasa, Satya Goundan has opened a business to help people around the area.

His stint career at Waiqele Secondary School has earned a place in his heart which led to the opening of a $150,000 mini mart and café.

The Trikal Mini Mart and Cafe Bar opened early this month.

Mr Goundan and his wife, Nagamma Goundan, work as teachers in Australia. Mr Goundan is from Vunivau, Labasa.

Trikaal Mini Mart provides grcery supplies, café, bakery liquor and entertainment such as billiard, kava, and a kid play area.

A mini service station and vegetable stalls will be constructed soon.

“I developed a strong bond with the local community and on my return to this region after four decades, I was surprised that the community doesn’t have daily access to the modern lifestyle enjoyed by the townsfolk,” Mr Goundan.

“Realising their isolation, I decided to invest in a rather quasi urban life business by starting a mini supermarket which is opposite the school.

“Trikal was chosen to mark an important landmark that is Waiqele Hot Springs and Lord Shiva’s Temple.

Mr Goundan is confident of a successful operation after he employed, Reena Kumari, who worked as a supervisor for renowned food company, McDonald’s, and pastry house, Rosy Hearts.
