The Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited (FSC) paid $1million to 4924 farmers to increase their cane production in 2023.

This was done through the corporation’s Farmers Incentive Programme.

Under this initiative, growers were rewarded $5 per ton for the difference in total cane supplied between the last two seasons.

It resulted in some farmers receiving more than $4000 for their efforts to boost cane production.

“We are delighted to see the positive impact of the Farmers Incentive Programme on our farming community,” said corporation chief executive officer Bhan Pratap Singh.

“Not only has it rewarded our hardworking growers for their efforts, but it has also encouraged the adoption of best farm management practices, ultimately leading to increased productivity.”

The programme is part of a broader effort by the FSC and the Government to support and incentivise the sugar industry’s growth.

“With this programme, we aim to ensure that growers are fairly rewarded for their contributions to the industry,” said Minister for Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh.
