Basic Industries sent home over 100 workers over the past two weeks, as work on the construction of roads and buildings began to shut down temporarily.
Chief executive officer Mosese Volavola made the comment yesterday saying the 114 workers sent home were hired on project based contracts.
“We are faced with a 50 per cent drop in income, that was compounded by the lockdown that was held in Lautoka and Suva.

Workers can expect a pay cut next month, Mr Volavola said.
Basic Industries has maintained 600 permanent workers on full time, without reducing work hours, he said.
Mr Volavola said 34 of the 114 contract workers were from Humes Industries.
Basic Industries comprises Standard Concrete, Humes Industries and Basic Homes. The offices are located around the country including Vanua Levu and the West.
