As a young lad, Mataroa Toakarawa told himself that he would become a pilot someday. The Kiribati native was always fascinated about robotic items, aircrafts and traveling.

In 2020 he made the decision to leave his family and friends behind and travel to Fiji to pursue his dream at the Pacific Flying School in Nadi.

The 21-year-old from Tabiteuea Island sacrificed a lot and worked hard to make his mum, Totite and his late dad, Toakarawa proud.
