Tourism Fiji has officially announced the resignation of its chief executive officer, Brent Hill, who will step down from his role at the end of August to return permanently to Australia with his family.

Confirming the news yesterday, chairperson of Tourism Fiji Andre Viljoen praised Mr Hill’s leadership over the past four years, describing him as “an outstanding CEO and an inspirational leader” who helped steer the organisation through one of the most challenging and dynamic periods in Fiji’s tourism history.

“Brent has guided the organisation through a period of significant transformation and growth, particularly in the wake of the global pandemic,” said Mr Viljoen.

“His strategic vision, creative energy, and deep commitment to the people and culture of Fiji have left an enduring mark—not just on Tourism Fiji, but across  the entire tourism industry.”

Under Mr Hill’s leadership, Tourism Fiji achieved several major milestones:

  •  Developed and implemented two key Corporate Plans that led to record-breaking visitor arrivals exceeding one million annually;
  •  Rolled out global brand campaigns, including the award-winning “Where Happiness Comes Naturally” initiative;
  •  Delivered high-profile events such as the Fiji Tourism Expo (FTE), AHICE Fiji, AdventureNext, NRL matches, the Tourism Convention, and the upcoming GSTC Global Summit and World Surf League’s Fiji Pro;
  •  Supported MSMEs and spearheaded the creation of a Destination Development team and industry-focused programmes like Tourism Super Week.

Mr Hill was also credited with advancing sustainability and innovation in the sector, introducing electric vehicles at scale, securing EarthCheck accreditation for Tourism Fiji’s new green office in Nadi, and leading public awareness initiatives like the ‘Bin It or Bag It’ campaign and ‘Loloma Hour’ to promote regenerative tourism.

“Brent was not only a leader in operations, but a champion for sustainable investment, innovation, and inclusion. The pipeline of projects and new tourism brands entering Fiji is a direct reflection of his tireless advocacy and expertise,” Mr Viljoen added.

He said, added that with Mr Hill’s departure now confirmed, Tourism Fiji would soon begin an extensive search for a new CEO.

“While Brent’s presence and leadership will be missed, we are excited for him as he begins this next chapter. We are deeply grateful for everything he has done for Tourism Fiji and the broader Fijian tourism industry,” Mr Viljoen said.

“His legacy is one of growth, innovation, and resilience.”
