A 30-seater catamaran that will be launched at Grand Eastern Hotel, Labasa, to boost local tourism and commerce in Fiji's second largest island.

The Gosal Cruisers, owned by business leader and Sugar minister Charan Jeath Singh, arrived in a container from China, and is the first of its kind for Vanua Levu.

"It will create much activity for people on the islands to provide food and cultural items that would generate financial support for their livelihood for them," Mr Singh said.

"It's an early Christmas present for the people of Vanua Levu," Mr Singh said yesterday. The service will launched on December 20, in time for Christmas, he said.

Valued at $1 million, Gosal Cruisers will be used as a day cruise vessel that departs Grand Eastern Hotel jetty daily at 9.30am for sightseeing and cultural exchanges at Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro , Savusavu and small surrounding islands.

The vessel, which arrived in a container from China, has a three crew capacity and cruising speed of around 35 knots.
