The Consumer Council of Fiji has forwarded consumer complaints against Global Financial Ltd (GFL) to the Criminal Investigations Department.

It comes as it found out that the company operated by a Mr Bridge, previously operating as Potential Business Solutions, was still duping people into their financial services.

GFL claims to be in a business of financial services – taking deposits and providing loans which never eventuate once deposits are received.

Recent consumer complaints and subsequent investigations by the Council revealed that Global Finance is still actively operating and Fijians are still falling victim to the façade being orchestrated by this company.

In the last eight months, the Council has received over 20 complaints against Global Finance with a monetary value of almost $24,000; which consumers have lost.

In one of the latest cases lodged at the Council, a consumer paid $4565 as membership fees and deposit to obtain a loan of $15,500.

Consumer Council of Fiji chief executive officer Seema Shandil said: “The operator of Global Finance uses his charm, communication and persuasion skills to extract cash deposits from consumers for quick loans; which never eventuates.

“The individual in question, is a notorious con artist who has been going around and preying on vulnerable communities across Fiji; including rural and maritime areas and the recent cases reveals Taveuni and Savusavu as his target areas.”

The modus operandi of this business entails going around to communities and holding numerous workshops.

It entices people with different products that they have to offer only to disappear when deposits were received for the so-called loan products.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji has also issued a statement in November cautioning consumers about Global Finance.

Call the council on the toll-free number 155 or lodge a complaint through the Consumer Council of Fiji’s mobile app if you come into contact with any person(s) representing Global Finance.
