A group of cane farmers want crushing dates pushed back, to allow for more time to address the state of readiness in the industry.

National Farmers Union wants a deferment for reasons that include the need for more flowering across sugarcane farms.

General secretary Mahendra Chaudhry wants a deferment of the 2023 crushing season from May 24 to mid June.
