Fiji Chinese Community Celebrate Future Relations

The development of Fiji-China relations over the years was highlighted as the local Chinese community marked Mid-Autumn Festival and the 74th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China last weekend.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, said China remained a key partner in helping Fiji achieve its sustainable development ambitions and to address challenges of national interest.
President of the Chinese Association of Fiji Jenny Seeto said: “The Fiji-China relationship is more than just about investment, infrastructure, capacity building and creating market access.

Also in attendance at the event was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics Biman Prasad, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji Zhou Jian.
Yon Tong Company’s Newton Yuen shared his optimism for the future of the Fiji-China relationship and agreed that integration is a positive thing and an opportunity for Chinese immigrants to give back to local communities.
