Fiji needs a lot more to convince Chinese investors

Vatukoula Gold was allowed by the Government to carry out mineral exploration at Mt Kasi.
A lot more convincing is needed to attract Chinese investors to Vatukoula Gold Mines.
That’s the word from the mines after a visiting Chinese delegation met with the Government, following an investment investigation of the Vatukoula site.
Vatukoula Gold spokesman Ian He said the delegation comprised representatives who invested in a mining operation in Australia.

“Their tour to Fiji is to investigate the investment environment at Vatukoula’s invitation,” he said.
“Tremendous efforts will be needed to convince them to invest in Vatukoula.”
The group’s visit was part its Australian tour.
The matter came to light after an inquiry by online influencer Alex Forwood, where she posed pointed questions to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands minister Filimoni Vosarogo about the state of play over a mining project at Mt Kasi.
Vatukoula Gold was allowed by the Government to carry out mineral exploration at Mt Kasi but has yet to carry out the exercise given opposition from landowners of Macuata.
