First Of Many Holidaymakers To Taveuni Welcomed With Project

Taveuni Tourism Association gladly welcomed the first lot of international tourists back to the Garden Island.

Five travellers disembarked from the Fiji Link flight to serenading and big bula welcome from associa­tion members.

Over the course of the next few days, more will be arriving to holi­day in the many tourism hotspots in the pristine island.

Association president, Terri Gor­tan, officially welcomed visi­tors with a short welcome speech and the opportunity to be the island’s first offi­cial tree-planters for the new Trees For Taveuni project.

The association is proud to support Robert Glowatzki, di­rector of Yanuyanu Pte Ltd, a local organic farm and food production company based on the island.

Mr Glowatzki and his team are the brains and sweat behind this carbon offset scheme.

Together with the associa­tion members and the vil­lagers, the goal was to help in the effort to reduce the carbon footprint of tour­ism to the island and in the reforestation of degraded farmland.

“It is our hope to get the new Trees For Taveuni Project started in full force in 2022,” Ms Gortan ad­vised.

“We will do our best to encourage all TTA members to assist with this exciting project to help offset car­bon while making our Island even more beautiful."

“This project will no doubt help attract more travellers to visit Taveuni and help support our Is­land and local communities at the same time. This is what the TTA is all about - encouraging Tourism to Taveuni.”

The TTA and its members are looking forward to welcoming more travellers over the following weeks leading up to a busy Christmas and New Year Fes­tive Season.

Ms Gortan said she was excited of the coming days ahead and looked forward to a busy season and 2022.
