The fate of Fiji’s only gold producer hangs in the balance as chances of continuity grow slimmer amid a host of challenges compounding its operations.

Vatukoula Gold Mines Limited may have to contend with similar action that led to the temporary suspension of works by another major operator of extractive sector.

Amex Resources - a black sands extract pro­ject in the Ba River mouth - had its mining lease suspended on the back of mechanical and technical challenges. The move is an ef­fort by the company to get its act together.
