Governor’s Term Nears End
Prior to his appointment as Governor in September 2017, Mr Ali was the Deputy Governor since May 2014.

The Central bank’s top job is being advertised, as the current Governor’s five-year contract concludes in the months ahead.
Governor Ariff Ali, whose term in office ends in September, declined to comment when contacted yesterday.
The humble media savvy and respected leader in the financial sector, hails from humble beginnings in Ba.

In 1992, he joined the Reserve Bank’s research department.
Mr Ali worked in the economics, financial markets and the financial institutions groups.
He rose to head the Financial Markets Group in 2009 and was the chief manager of the Economics Group from 2013.
Prior to his appointment as Governor in September 2017, Mr Ali was the Deputy Governor since May 2014.
As Governor, Mr Ali is the chairperson of the:
- Board of the Reserve Bank of Fiji,
- Monetary Policy Committee,
- Macroeconomic Committee,
- Capital Markets Development Taskforce,
- National Financial Inclusion Taskforce, and
- Secured Transactions Taskforce. He is also a member of the Council of the Fiji Institute of Bankers, and the National Anti-Money Laundering Council.
Mr Ali is chairperson of the:
- Government Tender Board,
- Accident Compensation Commission Fiji, and
- Fiji Roads Authority.
Mr Ariff Ali obtained his Bachelor of Economics (Honours) Degree from the International Islamic University, Malaysia, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific.
An advertisement about the Governor’s position was recently published in Fiji Sun.
The deadline for applications is March 21.
The Constitutional Offices Commission, in consultation with the Minister of Finance, advises the President over the appointment.
Fiji Airports
In another development, Fiji Airports has advertised the role of communications and public relations manager.
Fiji Airports manages 15 airports and employs over 400 people.
Former print and television journalist, Christoper Chand, 38, resigned last month after almost seven years.
He joined Fiji Airports as a communications officer, and progressed to a managerial post.
“I have hit my professional ceiling in the organisation and am looking for a new challenge to further progress my career,” Mr Chand said.
“Later this month, I will officially start on my new journey with Aspen Medical, as the communications and public relations manager.”
His last day in office is March 16.
