Govt Stance is Our Stance: Chetty says

Investment Fiji says it shares the Government’s position on the proposed $2 billion casino development led by Macau investor David Group.
Chief executive officer Kamal Chetty told SunBiz that the agency backed the Government’s decision to do its due diligence.
“Whatever their stance is, it’s our stance as well,” he said.

Last December, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka declared that the Government had not considered nor approved any policy guidelines on the issuance of casino licences, following the announcement of a proposed casino project by David Group.
“If the Government says that this isn’t allowed, then that’s the approach we’ll take,” Mr Chetty said.
“Whatever the law says, that’s what we’ll follow.”

A consultation hosted by David Group and the Fiji Council of Churches on the casino project took place in Suva yesterday.
When asked about the lack of Government representation at the consultation, Mr Chetty said the Government would facilitate opportunities for dialogue “on their own”.
Catholic Archbishop of Fiji, Peter Loy Chong said he was disappointed by Government’s absence.
“Government has made itself clear so that’s the position we’ll take,” Mr Chetty said.
Attempts to get comments from the Investment Fiji chair and President of the Chinese Association of Fiji, Jenny Seeto were unsuccessful before this edition went to print.
