Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment, Mahendra Reddy officiated at a workshop on Agriculture Data Dissemination, at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa, at Denarau, Nadi yesterday.

The workshop will elaborate more on the agriculture data and its impact on efficient and effective policy decision and planning.

Mr Reddy emphasised the need to further develop Fiji’s Agriculture sector, review progress of development programs and achieve its strategic priorities.

He said the continuous improvement of Agriculture Statistics was evident in the conduct of Fiji’s Agriculture Census in 2020.

“The full enumeration approach adopted in the recent agriculture census marks a significant milestone in the Agriculture Data Collection Process since previous similar exercises were only conducted through sampling,” Mr Reddy said.

“The 2020 Fiji Agriculture Census Report has now been released.”

The workshop provided an opportunity to discuss findings of the census and present other available agriculture statistics.

It also allowed data users identify their data needs.

“It also allows us and other data sources present here today to understand data implications to national planning and achievement of sectoral targets,” Mr Reddy said.

“Data is meaningless when there is limited understanding by users in regards to methodology, concepts and definitions used for data collection.”
