Fiji’s first ever MSME Conference will take place over two days in the capital city on the theme ‘Innovation Waves, Sailing MSMEs to Success’.

Scheduled for March 7 and 8 at the Grand Pacific Hotel, the event will offer 200 seats.

A soft launch for the occasion was held in Suva yesterday, where Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica said MSMEs were key growth drivers in developing Asia and the Pacific.

“In Fiji, there are approximately 30,000 registered MSMEs, and they account for approximately 82 percent, if not more business in Fiji,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“This number is far higher, if we consider the informal business operators.

“We are focused on economic diversification and our MSMEs are the leading force in driving this agenda.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

Crowd funding

The Government considered alternative finance such as crowd-funding and peer-to-peer lending to further the interests of MSMEs, Mr Kamikamica said.

“We will be going to Cabinet over the next few months on the MSME Strategic Development Plan to integrate the entire MSME Ecosystem and our MSME Bill,” he said.

MSMEs would be given the opportunity to learn from each other, create valuable business connections, voice concerns with statutory bodies, and collaborate for potential expansion, Mr Kamikamica said.

“To all the MSMEs out there, take hold of this opportunity and secure your place,” he said.
