Japan is ahead of the US in countries searching for flights to Fiji, Tourism Fiji revealed.

And India is trending as one of two countries with increased flight searches.

This, as traditional partners Australia and New Zealand, top the search list of flights to Fiji.

Chief executive officer Brent Hill said core countries used Tourism Fiji website for online search for flights for Fiji, ‘ which is good’.

“Its also good to see a country like Japan that we’re working hard to grow, getting up there in terms of search rankings – ie there are more Japanese tourists interested in Fiji and searching online for flights and what to do it in Fiji, which is a good sign,” he said.

“Occupancy is still strong – July should be a solid month again, and looking ahead, the forward bookings are telling us that our numbers are solid.

“As always we’re working to ensure as many as possible get to Fiji, but the forward booking data is solid.

“As expected, AU, NZ and US are our biggest 3 markets.

“Its also been expected to see a dip from New Zealand due to economic factors that are widely understood (inflation, recession, soft growth, high interest rates), but the figures are actually holding up well overall from New Zealand.”

Recent trends show increased flight searches from Australia (+1.9 per cent) and India (+0.6 per cent) and decreased searches from New Zealand (-1.2 per cent) and Japan (-0.4 per cent).

The average occupancy recorded in Fiji for July was 86 per cent, with forward booking at 79 per cent average occupancy for August, and 66 per cent for October.
