Javed Nominated For Tourism Award

A finalist for the Emerging Tourism Leader category of the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards hopes to inspire the younger generation in the tourism industry to love the work they do.
Javed Shameem of the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is honored to be nominated amongst high caliber of individuals who all are masters of their craft.
Mr Shameem is one of three nominees alongside Jack Johnson of Sofitel Fiji and Navneet Reddy of Outrigger Fiji.

Mr Shameem, 32, worked for the tourism industry for the past 11 years since December 9, 2008.
He is the market director of sales for Fiji and Samoa, looking after Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, The Westin Denarau Island Resort and Spa, Sheraton Fiji Resort, Sheraton Denarau Villas, Sheraton Resort and Spa Tokoriki Island, Sheraton Beach Resort Samoa and Sheraton Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows, Samoa.
His advice to young hospitality professionals was to keep the three C’s - Change, Challenges and Career.
“Our tourism industry is volatile and highly dynamic.”
“From changing tourist behavior and needs to changing market demands, to new and robust selling techniques to the new digital space we work in, change is the only constant.
“One of my key learnings is to combine the old school of tourism passed on by my mentors, with the modern approach to targeting a millennial and creative ways of selling digitally.”
