A former Chief Executive Officer who was vocal about the shipping and logistics sector has died.

Jone Cavubati, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Export Council, served the sector for over 10 years.

He is the younger brother of former rugby player, Bill Cavubati.

“Jone has had the opportunity to work with different logistics software managing cargo information systems, allowing traders to make informed decisions on their supply chain management,” his LinkedIn page said.

He was instrumental in repositioning the council to become Fiji’s Premier Trade Support Institution.

Mr Cavubati’s role focused on capacity building, trade advocacy, trade facilitation, trade intelligence and market research, his LinkedIn page said.

The export council closed in recent years.

Fiji’s Textile Clothing and Footwear Council worked closely with Mr Cavubati, and described him as a true gentleman.

“Larger than life in more ways than one, physically, intellectually, spiritually and was one of my very good Fijian friends,” council president, Mike Towler, said.

“I never heard him say a bad word about anyone, even when others were doing so or someone deserved it."

“He was a good father to his two daughters and in true Fijian tradition always put their needs and their welfare before his own."

“His Fijian Government Budget submissions on behalf of the Fiji Exporters Council and the TCF Industry Council were legendary."

“His English writing skills were second to none in a country where this skill is sadly lacking."

“He was a wordsmith of the highest order.”
