Kumar Applauds Govt’s Farming Support Initiatives

A 62-year-old semi-commercial farmer Jagdish Kumar has applauded Government on its farming support initiatives.
Mr Kumar who is originally from Vakabalea, Navua says the Government is doing a great job in helping the farmers during this hard time.
Since 2001, Mr Kumar had been planting different varieties of vegetables, dalo and cassava and sells it to buyers.

Mr Kumar earlier this week visited the Ministry of Agriculture extension office in Navua to pick up his vegetables seedlings and dalo tops.
“This is free of charge, only thing we should do is apply, and pick up the seeds and plant it,” he said.
This assistance is for everyone, he said.
Mr Kumar said in the last three months the farmers were not able to preserve their dalo tops and vegetables seedlings because of the dry weather.
“If it wasn’t for this assistance, it would be hard for me to buy my vegetables seedlings and dalo tops.”
The retired military personnel urged every Fijians to make use of this initiative while staying home with families for food security.
Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Ritesh Dass said another 10,000 seedlings were distributed this week to the various extension offices.
