InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa has reintroduced a programme that gives guests the option to donate $2 a night a room, for the resort’s community care fund.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa has reintroduced a programme that gives guests the option to donate $2 a night a room, for the resort’s community care fund.

Guests of a prestigious resort can now opt to donate $2 per room per night when they check in, in a move geared towards improving the livelihood of its immediate local community.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa says 100 per cent of the proceeds would be directed to the improvement of the education, well-being, sustainability, and infrastructure at Sanasana Village and Natadola Bay’s surrounding community.

This, as the resort – guided by IHG’s 10-year plan on the Journey to Tomorrow - reactivated its Community Care Fund programme.

Since it opened in 2009, the resort worked with local and international tourists to invest in community projects for the benefit of the community, Area General – South Pacific, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Lachlan Walker, said.

Previous Practice

In previous years, InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa team members invested Community Care Funds and volunteered to help improve Malomalo Primary School by painting buildings, repairing broken chairs and desks, replacing rusty window frames, and installing a new roof.

In September 2011, electricity and water were installed at the school, along with the construction and opening of a brand-new kindergarten at the school.

The $70,000.00 kindergarten project was jointly funded by the Fiji Water Foundation and donations from past resort guests.

Designed and built to Australian standards with a jungle theme, the preschool inspires the children’s imagination outside of their typical environment.

The Community Care Fund fund will be invested in four key areas:

  • Education,
  • Wellbeing,
  • Environmental Sustainability,
  • Infrastructure.

Committee

The fund will be managed by a committee, which include a group of volunteers from the resorts different departments.

The committee meets monthly to track the progress of initiatives, consider new initiatives and ensure staff members and guests are given the opportunity to participate.
