Web designer, Roderick Lal, enjoys the outdoors, and believes Suva Stand Up paddlers, is a great way to promote domestic tourism.

Web designer and developer, Roderick Lal’s middle name may as well be Ocean, for the fact that it is the one place he would spend his days, if he had the choice.

He is of the opinion that every individual needs to take personal responsibility in safeguarding the marine ecosystem.

Growing up in Suva, he has seen the manmade ruins and pollution to the ocean.

His day job at ANZ aside, Mr Lal is an avid paddler.

Mr Lal is part of Suva SUPers, a group that gathers daily paddlers in Suva.

The Suva SUPers is a collective group that gathers daily and paddle in Suva’s Laucala Bay area.

As a Suva SUPers, members are up daily on the water by 5.30am, to paddle to the Nukubuco Sandbank - about 3.6 kilometres from Suva Point.

Suva SUPers is made up of all walks of life, who enjoy the energy of the sea, meeting the odd turtle, sea snake, stingray and shark, coral viewing, and good fellowship.

Mr Lal advocates for climate change and the marine ecosystem.

“Hiking, and anything that involves getting out of the office and house, is my type of activity,” he said.

Suva SUPers was established by Reverend James Bhagwan, also a champion in marine preservation. More on Suva SUPers can be found on its Facebook page which can be found under the same name.
