With only a few more weeks until Fiji Spartan Trifecta Week presented by Fiji Airways, kicks off, managing director of Spartan Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji Chris Heverin said the focus was now on ramping up marketing efforts for the event.
With a total projected budget of FJ$2 million, Spartan is expected to attract over 3000 participants in November, many of whom are overseas athletes.
“We’ve got international athletes and World Champions coming. We’re still working very closely with each of the main markets, including Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan and the US,” Mr Heverin said.

He confirmed that an agreement was made for Fiji Spartan to be an Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championships qualifier.
“So that is about 3000 athletes recently competed in the World OCR championships in Belgium, and we’re marketing to all of those people to come and participate in Fiji to qualify for the World Championships in 2024. So that’s exciting,” he said.
Mr Heverin said the event was not just for elite athletes and that it was created for anyone who would be keen to get involved.
“There’s a distance for everybody. You don’t have to train that hard. You can walk the event if you want, but it’s all about doing it with your friends, doing it in a team, participating with your family and work colleagues, and having a great time when you’re doing so,” he said.
He said interest from locals to take part was high based on Spartan’s social media and advertising data.
Mr Heverin encouraged locals to experience Spartan for themselves, whether as a participant or as spectator.
