The reduction of curfew hours is a positive sign for the country’s largest international fast food group.

McDonald’s (Fiji) is happy with the reduction of curfew hours from 8pm-5am to 10pm-5am, saying it was expected to improve business operations.

Managing director Marc McElrath said: “It gives people an opportunity to come out and move around a bit more.

“Our business is still way down but still improving.”

Mr McElrath said staff were working on reduced hours.

“We are sharing the hours among the staff so they can get some wages with the limited hours.

“I am sure that in months to come, things will start to improve and hopefully by the end of the year or early next year, everything will get back to normal.”

McDonald’s (Fiji) employs a total of 245 workers and maintains four outlets across the country.

Mr McElrath had plans to expand before the coronavirus pandemic but will have to re-evaluate when things normalise.

He said McDonald’s Fiji had lost half its earnings because of the impact of coronavirus.
