Suva’s busy commercial hub, Morris Hedstrom Company (MHCC), celebrated its 18th anniversary today, unveiling its major new expansion, the Carpenters Tower.
Carpenters Fiji and Mauritius director Kunaseelan Sabaratnam said the anniversary was more than a milestone.
“It is a testament to MHCC’s resilience, growth and its role as the meeting point for thousands of Fijians since opening on December 12, 2007,” he said.

“Eighteen years have passed, and we are still going strong. We have new tenants, new mixers, and now the tower is ready and open. Sooner or later, all tenants will move in. MHCC continues to live up to its expectation of being the meeting point.”
Mr Sabaratnam said the expansion was possible through strong support from Carpenters Properties and partners in Malaysia.
He acknowledged contributions from Sir Morgan, directors Noel Rajan and Shanti Vijay Arvin, and project master planner Sinclair Brooks, who oversaw the tower’s development.
“This is a major addition to MHCC,” he said. “The whole complex has been transformed. It is full, active and welcoming, exactly what a meeting point should be.”
The celebrations drew long-time tenants, shoppers and invited guests who have witnessed MHCC evolve from a new mall in 2007 to one of Suva’s most vibrant commercial landmarks.
The event marked both the mall’s birthday and the tower’s unveiling, symbolising a new chapter for the company.
With Carpenters Tower now operational, MHCC is expected to welcome new retail, commercial and professional tenants in the coming months.
The development signals stronger investor confidence in Suva’s urban centre and continued commitment from the Carpenters Group to shaping the capital’s commercial landscape.
“MHCC has stood tall and proud for 18 years, and we intend to keep growing,” Mr Sabaratnam said.
