Bank South Pacific Fiji has launched BSP eDollar, Fiji’s first bank-backed electronic wallet, giving customers a new way to manage, transfer and spend money through their mobile phones.
BSP Acting Country Head Maikash Ali said eDollar brought the reach of Fiji’s largest banking network directly to customers’ mobile phones, giving them greater choice, control and convenience.
Customers can create and manage up to five wallets through the app, each with its own unique account number and the option of domestic or international access.

They can move funds between their BSP accounts and wallets, transfer money to other BSP customers and transact across participating banks and mobile wallets.
Mr Ali said the significance of eDollar was the convenience it offered customers.
Services that previously required a visit to a branch, time spent in a queue or a call to BSP’s Customer Service Centre could increasingly be managed directly from a mobile device.
“That is real, everyday banking convenience, putting greater control into the hands of our customers, wherever they are,” Mr Ali said.
A key feature is QR payments, allowing customers to generate a QR code for each e-wallet for instant transfers between individuals and payments at BSP QR merchant locations.
Mr Ali said BSP was committed to ensuring no customer was left behind as banking became more digital.
He urged customers to treat their eDollar wallets with the same care as their bank accounts and remain alert to unsolicited calls or messages requesting personal or account details.
BSP Chief Information Officer Omid Saberi said eDollar took about one and a half to two years to develop and was designed to bring banking services to customers with greater convenience.
He demonstrated how customers could access the wallet through existing BSP internet banking without needing separate credentials.
Customers can create wallets for purposes such as online purchases, transfer funds from their bank accounts and use virtual Visa card details to make online payments.
Mr Saberi said the feature could provide greater access to online purchasing for Fijians.
Customers can also change their card verification value after purchases to improve security, he said.
Meanwhile, Reserve Bank of Fiji Governor Ariff Ali said the launch was closely aligned with the Reserve Bank’s payment system modernisation agenda, which aims to build a payment system that is safe, efficient, inclusive and resilient.
Governor Ali said BSP eDollar incorporated Fiji’s National QR Code Standard, making it interoperable with other participating payment service providers.
He said internet banking usage had increased more than tenfold since 2015, while person-to-person digital transfers recorded 57 million transactions worth $2.9 billion last year.
QR payments also increased by almost 700 per cent, from $86 million in 2021 to $672 million in 2025.
Governor Ali said the launch demonstrated BSP’s leadership and innovation and contributed to Fiji’s broader digital economy and financial inclusion goals.
