An Indian restaurant, Mughlai Restaurant and Hookah Lounge, officially opened yesterday, bringing authentic Indian dishes to the public.

This new restaurant is situated at the revamped Challenge Plaza (former Vivras Plaza), on Ratu Dovi Rd, Laucala Beach.

Shaireen Nisha, owner of Mughlai Restaurant and Hookah Lounge said the restaurant aims to provide cuisines from different Indian states to the people of Fiji.

Ms Nisha said an advantage to their business was the fact that her husband was a chef by profession and originally from Hyderabad in India.

“We had a restaurant at Laucala Beach (close to Vinod Patel Centrepoint) for four years before we shifted to a bigger restaurant at Waimanu Road which can cater for 150 people,” she said.

“We sold the restaurant due to the pandemic and now we are open here after we heard that a big supermarket would be open here which means we could get customers. We wanted to do something different; there are already restaurants with Indian food, but the taste of the food will make the people come back for more.

“Since we open this morning, we had a positive response which is good for the business.

“We have decreased some of the food prices due to the pandemic and everything is affordable.”

She said they are bringing food from India to the locals here in the hopes that the locals can also have a taste of authentic food.

With an investment of over $30,000, Ms Nisha hopes everything would get back to normal soon.

“We are following all the adversaries and protocols from the Ministry of Health,” Ms Nisha said.

  • The restaurant opens from Monday to Sunday from 10am-5pm.
