Market vendors in Nabouwalu, Bua, are set to benefit from the new Passenger Services Terminal, commissioned today.
The modern terminal is already creating renewed optimism among small-scale traders who rely on daily passenger movement for their livelihoods.
With improved facilities, better shelter, and increased traveller traffic, vendors say the development will help boost sales, improve safety, and create a more stable income.

Salonieta Kini of Waitovure Settlement in Nabouwalu has been selling fish parcels at Nabouwalu Market for more than six years.
She said the new terminal would attract more travellers and make it easier for vendors like her to do business.
“Before, when the weather was bad or the jetty area was crowded, people rushed straight onto the boats. Now they have a proper terminal and more time to buy food,” Ms Kini said.
She added that increased passenger flow would mean more customers, especially during peak travel periods between Vanua Levu and Viti Levu.
Another vendor, Susana Bulavu of Waitovure Settlement, sells pies at the market.
Ms Bulavu said the terminal would benefit food vendors, as travellers often look for quick meals before boarding vessels.
“People will be waiting in the terminal, and they will be hungry. That is good for us food sellers,” she said.
Fish parcel seller Kriti Nand of Navakasiga Village welcomed the development, saying improved transport facilities help vendors plan better and reduce losses.
“With more reliable services and more people coming through Nabouwalu, we can prepare more stock and earn more for our families,” Ms Nand said.
The new terminal also includes kiosks and organised spaces, creating a cleaner and safer environment that encourages passengers to spend more time in the area.
Vendors believe this will lead to stronger demand for local products, including fresh fish, cooked food, and handicrafts.
