After 27 years of the Lihir gold project, Newcrest has done very little to honour the Lihir Agreement, the Papua New Guinea Government has said.
Newcrest’s move to sell out to Newmont was distasteful, the Papua New Guinea Government has said.
According to PNG Haus Bung, an independent news agency, the move came as no surprise.
PNG’s deputy Governor and chairman for mining matters, Semmie Missen, said the deal was “big-time” pay off for shareholders only, with no regard to outstanding project commitments of the State to the people of the province of New Ireland.
