A couple who are from medical professional backgrounds will open their $200,000 shopping centre investment in Labasa today.
Located at Paras Point in Vunivau, Sashis Shopping Centre is the brainchild of retired nurse, Sashi Lata and her dentist husband, Prem Chand Lal.
Both also come from farming backgrounds but never thought that they would invest into business with the current economic challenges.

How It All Started
Ms Lata said when she retired from 32 years of service in August, 2021, her husband suggested engaging a new level of community service.
She chose to provide much needed service to the people of Vunivau, Valebasoga, Soasoa and Vaturekuka.
“The centre will be operating seven days a week from 7am to 11pm,” Mrs Lata said.
“Everything including hardware materials will be provided.”
Reason For The Location
Mr Lal, eldest of four siblings, said they chose to invest in a rural setting to ease people’s burden and provide more options.
“People now do not have to spend money for taxi fare or bus fare waiting in traffic jams to do shopping in Labasa Town,” he said.
“We have space for 20 vehicles and people can walk in to do shopping comfortably.”
They have employed four staff.
