P Meghji Group yesterday opened their third Fresh Choice Supermarket, in Walu Street, Lautoka.

Pacific Beverages Fiji sales and marketing manager Joe Rodan said this was a classic example of local companies investing where it counts the most.

Mr Rodan, who was also the chief guest ,said P Meghji was paving the way for how other local businesses should be spending and investing their money.

“P Meghji is a classic example of when the economy is down, they have come in and invested a lot to drive the economy.

“Investing here is not only driving the economy but is also providing employment to so many who need it right now.

“It is a good example of what local businesses should be doing. To help our economy get back to normal we need to be investing local.”

Mr Rodan said local businesses should reconsider investing in overseas products and companies as this drive’s money out of the country and its economy.

Furthermore, he said that opening a supermarket which offers very affordable pricings and maintaining a standard has set the bar for other supermarkets.

“They have raised the bar for everyone else and other supermarkets need to follow those standards soon or they will lose customers.”

About the investment

P Meghji director Romit Meghji said the investment cost more than a million dollars.

More than 55 locals have been employed through this new branch.

Despite the pandemic he believes this is the best time to invest as when things are back to normal things should bounce back quickly.

“Fiji is a very small country once borders open Fiji will bounce back very quickly compared to other international countries.

“We cannot rely on or keep looking back and we need to keep pushing forward even though it’s a difficult time.

“We need to be ready and make sure there is potential. Food is something that will not stop being consumed.”

The group has two other branches, in Garden City, Suva and Denarau, Nadi.

Mr Meghji confirmed there are plans to open a few more branches around the country this year.
