An advantage about being a geologist is the places it takes you, says Eric Jensen, general manager exploration, of EMX Royalty Corporation.

EMX Royalty Corporation is a Canadian company that specialises in precious, base and battery metals royalty.

It operates as a royalty and prospect generator engaged in the exploring for, and generating royalties from, metals and minerals properties.

Mr Jensen was in the country on the invitation of Lion One, for its Tuvatu alkaline gold project, in Sabeto.

Lion One is the second gold mine in Fiji, which operates in the Sleeping Giant.

Mr Jensen’s job is to facilitate mineral discoveries around the world, in order to build value for shareholders.

“One of the nice things about our job is that we travel to places like Tuvatu,” Mr Jensen said.

“We don’t just go to the capital, or the big cities."

“We go to the towns, to Tuvatu, to places that tourists otherwise never would go."

“We get to see parts of the society that arenot visible to an average tourist."

“And that’s fun, because we get to interact with people who aren’t part of the tourism sector.'

“We get to really see what a country is like."

“You don’t see that very often; that’s very unusual.”

“This is different; you don’t often see this.”

The modern fleet of national airline Fiji Airways was another bonus to visit Fiji, he said.
