Renewable Energy Transition Top Priority for New CEO

The pundits were right all along.

The year 2024 would herald the end of a legacy in the energy sector, and the dawn of new leadership.

For the past two years, insiders have foretold of this day, when the call would be made for a replacement of the country's longest serving chief executive officer of the top tier State-owned entity.

As the energy sector scouts for a new boss, tribute is paid to the industry's outgoing and long serving leader Hasmukh Patel, who steps aside from Energy Fiji Limited's top job.

Mr Patel, now in his 70s, worked his way to the top while serving the company all his working life.

American-founded recruiter

Energy Fiji Limited wants a full-time Fiji based chief executive officer. American-founded recruiter Mercer will vet applications, which close on January 17.

According to the advertisement, EFL is expanding its renewable energy sources.

It also alluded to the "next phase of growth and innovation in the organisation, and an exciting period of transformation".

The next chief executive officer must focus on "transition to renewable energy", ensure reliability and efficiency of energy supply across all service areas

Exceptional communication

In fact, it's next ideal chief executive officer would need to demonstrate:

•  outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities,
•  high performance culture,
•  the ability to mentor diverse teams,
•  long-term plans to adapt to evolving market trends and geopolitical challenges.

Given the multi-million-dollar nature of the business and the high-level risks that come with the business, the role requires:

•  one with strong financial acumen, and
•  experience in capital investment strategies to ensure financial stability of the organisation.
