The Suva Western Bus Stand is undergoing a major transformation following the demolition of 23 bean cart stalls, some of which had been in place for over two decades.
The move marks the beginning of a much-anticipated facelift aimed at modernising the area and enhancing business opportunities for vendors.
Stall owner Rakesh Kumar, who has operated a bean cart and juice stall for over 20 years, welcomed the change after extensive consultations with the Suva City Council (SCC).

"We've been negotiating with the City Council for months," Mr Kumar said.
"They've assured us that our spots will remain after the rebuild.
"It's time to let go of the old structures and embrace new, modern models that will help grow our businesses."
The SCC cited hygiene concerns and reports of illicit activities as key drivers for the redevelopment.
The new stalls will feature contemporary designs similar to those at the Suva Municipal Market, offering an improved business environment.
Another long-time vendor, Filisita Sameke, who has been in the trade for more than a decade, expressed satisfaction with the council's proactive approach.
"For years, we worked in makeshift structures that were uncomfortable and inefficient," Ms Sameke said.
"The council's swift action will make our work easier and more appealing to customers."
The revamped stalls are expected to elevate the overall ambiance of the bus stand, fostering a safer and more hygienic space for both vendors and customers.
sec developers have reassured vendors that the reconstruction will take two to three months to complete, promising minimal disruption.
Vendors who currently pay up to $32.70 per week for their spaces, believe the investment will be worth it.
