Rural families can now access unsecured loans of up to $10,000 for home improvements without the need for collateral, making renovations more accessible than ever before.

Fiji Development Bank (FDB) board chairperson Damend Gounder said the initiative specifically targets communities that have traditionally struggled to provide security for loans.

“Customers can access unsecured loans from $2,500 to $10,000, making home improvements more accessible than ever,” Mr Gounder said during today’s launch.

The FDB Choice Home Loan allows rural communities to access funds for renovations, house upgrades, or painting.

FDB chief executive officer Filimone Waqabaca said rural residents often faced barriers to securing traditional loans.

“It does not exclude those in rural communities; they can also access this,” Mr Waqabaca said.

“We hope we are providing another avenue that allows our youth, women, persons with disabilities, and marginalised groups to have an opportunity to own a home.”

The facility is designed for families who may not have traditional employment but demonstrate consistent income through other means.

Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel highlighted the Government’s commitment to inclusive development reaching all Fijians.

“A Fiji where no one is left behind because of where they live, how they earn, or what opportunities they have had so far,” Mr Immanuel said.

The loan supports women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups across Fiji. Applications for the new facility open from January 2, 2026, at FDB branches nationwide.
