The Government has put in place plans to revive the sandalwood industry to meet the rise in demand in markets such as Australia.
Sandalwood trees are highly valued for their fragrant heartwood oils, which have been used for centuries for religious and customary purposes, Minister for Forestry Kalaveti Ravu said.
He said sandalwood was now in demand internationally for cosmetics, aromatherapy, scenting of soaps, perfumery and medicines.
