Sandalwood Trade To Make A Comeback

The Government has put in place plans to revive the sandalwood industry to meet the rise in demand in mar­kets such as Australia.

Sandalwood trees are highly val­ued for their fragrant heartwood oils, which have been used for cen­turies for religious and customary purposes, Minister for Forestry Kalaveti Ravu said.

He said sandalwood was now in demand internationally for cos­metics, aromatherapy, scenting of soaps, perfumery and medicines.
