Savusavu Hotsprings Project is expected to boost tourism activity through eco-tourism, Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development, Premila Kumar, said.

During a public consultation, she said the project will be undertaken for the purpose of generating economic activity around the hotspring area.

“We have women who are selling cooked food from the area and we want to continue with this,” she said.

Tourist-Attractive

She said the use of the area for commercial food sales should be carried out in a tourist-attractive manner.

“We will develop the area to make it more presentable and promote a feel-good factor for the hidden paradise and its visitors,” she said.

Ms Kumar said the development works on the hotspring site would begin by the end of next month, and would take two months to complete.

Project Details

She said the project was initially suggested by the Savusavu Town Council, chief executive officer, Seema Dutt, on the need to improve the hotspring area.

“This request was spearheaded with a collaboration between the Savusavu Tourism Association, Blue Town committee and the Chamber of Commerce,” she said.

The project is funded by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum with cash assistance of $48,000.

They will set up boulders around the hotspring area, provide seating arrangements and construct bure-like- houses at the site.

The developments were part of the Ministry’s commitment to ensure Savusavu achieved its Blue Town model goals.
