The Suva City Council (SCC) is planning to build a new double‑storey bus terminal at the Suva waterfront.

Acting chief executive officer and special administrators chairperson Tevita Boseiwaqa says the project is part of the council’s plan to improve the city and attract more tourists.

He said Suva depends mainly on cruise ships for tourism. Because of this, the city must make a good first impression.

“When cruise visitors arrive, the first thing they see should be beautiful and well organised,” he said. “The area must not be crowded. It should be clean and spacious.”

The new terminal will face the sea and the port where cruise ships dock.

The ground floor will be used by bus passengers. Commuters will be able to wait for their buses and buy tickets in a safe and comfortable space.

The upper floor will have small shops and refreshment areas. Passengers can buy drinks and snacks while waiting.

The council is still finalising the cost of the project. Once approved, it will advertise for expressions of interest from developers.

The double‑storey bus terminal will be part of the next phase of development aimed at improving Suva’s image and supporting tourism growth.
